Managing Partner Max Crane was interviewed about changes that have occurred at New Jersey law firms because of the recession and those that may stick around after the recession is over. According to the article, “Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. managing partner, R. Max Crane, said he has observed a major change in how larger firms are handling their hiring, with firms being more cautious about bringing in associates, making lateral hires from other firms and adding partners.” The article continues, “Crane sees New Jersey law firms being in a better position than the field nationally, particularly compared with firms in neighboring states. Most New Jersey firms hadn’t grown rapidly in the years before the recession, so they don’t have to cut as deeply. Also, New Jersey corporations in the past would consider spending more for firms in New York or Philadelphia because of their perceived prestige. But now, Crane said, cost-conscious New Jersey businesses will look closer to home for legal aid at a better price.”
