N.J. Court Unveils MCLE Plan: 24 Hours Every Two Years

On October 8, 2009, the New Jersey Supreme Court announced that mandatory continuing legal education for all plenary-licensed attorneys will start next year. According to the article, “The Court largely adopted the recommendations of an ad hoc committee chaired by former Justice Peter Verniero, which were based on extensive public hearings and written commentary.” Verniero stated, “I’m pleased with the Court’s determinations. The justices accepted a majority of the Committee’s recommendations, with some modifications. The Court also issued a clear statement on compliance, consistent with the Committee’s goal of maintaining integrity in the system. The legal profession – and the public it serves – ultimately will benefit from the Court’s comprehensive approach to continuing legal educations.”
