According to this article, “The committee of unsecured creditors with claims totaling more than $60 million against Bayonne Medical Center is seeking city and state help to rescue the fiscally ailing hospital from possible closure. But if Gov. Jon Corzine or Bayonne Mayor Joseph V. Doria Jr., who is also a state senator, have a bailout plan for the hospital currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy status, they’ve been silent about it.” The committee of unsecured creditors hosted a luncheon for Bayonne city officials and civil leaders to rally community support for the hospital. The article continues, “Creditors committee attorney Andrew H. Sherman warned, in a letter Tuesday to Doria and state officials, that unless BMC gets the court to allow continued ‘borrowings’ or gets an infusion of state or city aid, ‘there is a real and genuine possibility of near-term closure.’”
