Elissa J. Glasband is a Member of the Sills Cummis & Gross Litigation, Mass Tort, Product Liability and Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Groups. She litigates cases for clients in the areas of complex civil and commercial litigation, including product liability, toxic tort, environmental, consumer fraud, insurance and securities litigation on behalf of Fortune 500 companies in state and federal courts throughout the U.S. and before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. She leverages her in-depth experience to represent clients across a wide range of industries, including insurance.

Ms. Glasband has extensive experience formulating litigation strategies based on complex medical and scientific issues and responding to toxic tort allegations, including assessing the scientific issues related to such claims. She regularly identifies and retains experts and has worked with some of the country’s most prominent exposure and liability experts to develop scientific defenses for her clients.

Ms. Glasband advises clients on electronic discovery matters and has extensive experience counseling clients on record retention compliance policies and procedures. She routinely advises clients regarding preservation notices and electronic discovery matters. She has coordinated and managed many large-scale electronic and hard copy document collections, reviews and productions in complex federal and state litigations, including class actions. Her experience spans the entire litigation process, from the investigatory and pleading stages through discovery, witness preparation, trial and appeals.

Ms. Glasband has appeared in federal and state courts around the country defending class action litigation brought under consumer protection and consumer fraud statutes, including the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (NJCFA) and the New Jersey Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act (TCCWNA).

Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Glasband was a partner at Locke Lord. In addition, Ms. Glasband served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Jaynee LaVecchia in the Supreme Court of New Jersey and for the Honorable Dennis Cavanaugh in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

  • Defend publicly traded insurance company in complex commercial litigation in New Jersey state court where plaintiff asserted claims for breach of contract, tortious interference and conspiracy to defraud.
  • Represent professional sports team and entertainment company in class action litigation in New Jersey federal court arising out of allegations concerning the New Jersey Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act.
  • Counsel multi-national retail chains, consumer product companies and service providers on New Jersey Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act’s impact on their businesses.
  • Represent a skin care product manufacturer in a multi-plaintiff action alleging, among other things, labeling and misbranding claims, personal injuries and violations of multiple states’ consumer protection laws, as well as fraud claims arising from the plaintiffs’ alleged purchase and use of skin care products.
  • Defend major media company in connection with breach of contact actions in New York state court.
  • Defend global chemical company in toxic tort and product liability litigation related to the company’s manufacture and sale of the dry cleaning solvent perchloroethylene (perc).
  • Represent international toy company in product liability and environmental litigations, including asbestos cases.
  • Counsel multi-national construction company and a regional cable television and radio network in connection with respiratory claims arising from alleged exposure to particulate matter, diesel and asbestos during major arena renovation.
  • Defend the largest metropolitan municipality and more than 150 of its contractors in connection with over 10,000 personal injury claims brought by individuals who participated in the rescue, recovery and debris removal activities in the aftermath of the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attacks.
  • Represent a prestigious Advisory Panel in connection with their independent review of the quality and safety processes of one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers and advising the Panel in connection with their issuance of a public report making recommendations to the company’s senior management.
  • Counsel a large U.S. supermarket chain on product recall issues.
  • Defend a major chemical company in connection with medical monitoring, remediation, personal injury and environmental claims arising out of plant operations in various state and federal courts throughout the country.
  • Oversight and management of international chemical manufacturers in toxic tort matters involving alleged exposure to vinyl chloride and product liability actions in various state courts, including New Jersey, Ohio and Maryland.
  • Represent major chemical manufacturer throughout the U.S. in toxic tort cases involving alleged exposure to Agent Orange.
  • Defend a fireboat corporation in connection with negligence and OPA claims related to its response to a major off-shore oil rig fire.
  • Counsel foreign financial institution in litigations relating to federal and state banking regulations and civil provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, as well as international discovery under the Hague Convention.
  • Counsel for the Audit Committee of a major telecommunications company and conducted an internal investigation of the company in connection with Foreign Corrupt Practice Act allegations by a former employee.
  • Oversight and management of the defense of large telecommunications clients in complex consumer fraud class actions in federal court and before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.
  • Defend a major rental corporation in complex consumer fraud class actions.
  • Represent a biodiesel company in connection with multimillion dollar breach of contract dispute.
  • Defend an international chemical company in complex commercial contract dispute in federal court.
