Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. hosted a field trip at its Newark headquarters for students of the NJ Law and Education Empowerment Project (NJ LEEP) Summer Law Institute on July 12, 2012. NJ LEEP is a community-based organization that empowers urban youth in grades eight to twelve from underserved neighborhoods in northern New Jersey to perform at high academic levels by building skills through law-related, mathematic and other educational programs, developing the habits necessary for lasting success and community leadership, and offering exposure to role models who have achieved academic and professional success. The Summer Law Institute is for ninth graders; they participate in a five week criminal law course taught by law students from the Seton Hall University School of Law and other law schools. During their field trip, approximately 40 students met with Sills Cummis & Gross attorneys from different practice areas, who described the nature of their work to them.
The Summer Law Institute serves as an introductory course for students to become exposed to NJ LEEP. Upon finishing the summer session, students are encouraged to apply for NJ LEEP’s four-year college bound program. Sills Cummis & Gross is proud to partner with NJ LEEP.
