Jerold L. Zaro to receive Award of Courage Corporation's Humanitarian Award at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Benefit: Governor Chris Christie to Deliver Keynote

April 25, 2011

The Award of Courage Corporation is hosting its 15th Award of Courage Gala Dinner & Auction on Thursday, April 28th starting at 6:00PM at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan. All proceeds benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. This year’s event will honor Jerold L. Zaro, Counsel to the Law Firm of Sills Cummis & Gross P.C., with a Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic work and steadfast determination in the fight against cancer. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will be the evening’s Keynote Speaker, and Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band and Late Night with Conan O’Brien fame will be serving as emcee and auctioneer.

The net proceeds raised at this event go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, one of the nation’s preeminent centers for cancer research, education, and treatment. The Award of Courage Corporation was founded by David and Monica Gorin. The Gorins established the Award of Courage Dinner & Auction in 1993 to benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and raise funds for the Department of Surgery after David was successfully treated at Sloan Kettering. Money raised at this event goes to awarding young fully-trained Board Certified surgeons a one-year surgical oncology fellowship and to underwriting invaluable research and education initiatives to improve patient care.

More than 400 guests are expected at Cipriani 42nd Street for this year’s Gala, being produced by JKS Events. Thanks to the diligent work of the event committee members, with special thanks to Jonathan Schultz, AOC Board Member and Principal of Onyx Equities LLC, this event has raised over $2.5 million for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to date.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, one of the most celebrated and talked-about politicians, will be the evening’s Keynote Speaker. He along with the others in attendance will watch as Jerold Zaro, Counsel to the Law Firm of Sills Cummis & Gross, P.C. and former Chief of the New Jersey Office of Economic Growth, receives the Award of Courage Corporation’s Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic leadership in the community and his dedication to eradicating this terrible disease.

A silent and live auction of premium items will be featured during the evening. The celebrity auctioneer will be the beloved drummer of Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band, Max Weinberg. The event committee hopes that offering exciting items such as a dream Yankee Stadium package, getaways to luxury hotels in Puerto Rico and Arizona, corporate suites at Prudential Center sporting events and concerts, a museum-quality Steve Penley painting, and “Nights on the Town” packages will make for an exciting evening. Most notably, Max Weinberg will be auctioning off a private drum lesson, a truly tempting item for any musician or music lovers in the crowd.
