Jeffrey J. Greenbaum, Co-Chair of the Firm's Business Litigation Section, and Chair of the Firm’s Class Action Practice Group, is an active litigator and trial attorney in the Federal and State Courts with a specialty in complex business litigation and in defending class action litigation. He has handled cases of national prominence, chaired the ABA Section of Litigation Class Actions and Derivative Suits Committee and is a frequent lecturer in the class action field. He has handled numerous matters involving securities, RICO and consumer fraud, class actions and derivative suits, professional liability, antitrust, banking, chancery practice, contracts, real estate, trade secrets and unfair competition.
Mr. Greenbaum is a leader in the ABA Section of Litigation and the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey, where he served as President. In the ABA Section of Litigation, he was an elected Section Officer, member of the Section’s Executive Committee and governing Council and was its liaison to the U.S. Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Civil Rules, the U.S. Supreme Court Committee responsible for recommending changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. He was also Co-Chair of the Section’s Federal Practice Task Force and Co-Chair of the Class Actions and Derivative Suits Committee. Mr. Greenbaum led a committee to review for the ABA the first proposed revisions to the Federal Class Action Rule, Rule 23, testified on those provisions before the U.S. Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Civil Rules and co-authored a report for the Section of Litigation on proposed federal legislation involving class actions.
Mr. Greenbaum was also a member of the ABA President’s Class Action Task Force, a group that developed the ABA position on federal legislation seeking class action reform. Mr. Greenbaum was a presenter before the U.S. Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Civil Rules at its Class Action Conference, a conference of the nation’s leading class action practitioners, judges and law professors, designed to obtain input on proposed changes to the class action rule. He spoke on the subject of Overlapping, Competing and Duplicative Class Actions – The Practitioner’s Perspective. He was also a panelist at the Advisory Committee's Duke Conference exploring litigation costs and delay.
Mr. Greenbaum has represented the Philippine Government in its search for purloined assets of the late deposed President Ferdinand E. Marcos, obtaining the first judgment in the United States that restored property to the Philippine Government.
Mr. Greenbaum began his career as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Frederick B. Lacey, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey, and served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, where he handled complex fraud cases. He is a Certified Civil Trial Attorney.
Mr. Greenbaum has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2005, Chambers USA Guide to America's Leading Lawyers for Business for a number of years, including 2010, Benchmark: America's Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys for a number of years including 2010 and New Jersey Super Lawyers since its inception in 2005.
